The third PhD employed within the CarboKinetics program, Ran An, defended her thesis at Wageningen University & Research on 10 December 2020. Ran collaborated closely with her colleague Ellen Wilms (Maastricht University Medical Center+) and focused on colonic and small intestinal carbohydrate degradation in healthy adults and elderly. Rans work has contributed to the understanding of the complex relationships between gut microbiota, health and ageing, and associated strategies to modulate the microbiota (link to paper: 10.1136/gutjnl-2017-315542).
